Genymotion Desktop and VPN

Overview

Genymotion Desktop communicates with the virtual device via a virtual network card created by VirtualBox. This is a dedicated interface for Genymotion virtual devices. VPNs are likely to change your network configuration. VPNs can prevent Genymotion Desktop from running properly. An example involves the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client changing the routing table of your workstation. This action sends the whole network traffic to the VPN. This prevents Genymotion Desktop from connecting to the virtual device. An error is displayed and the launch is aborted. To solve this, you must configure AnyConnect so that local traffic is not sent to the VPN. To do so, contact your network administrator or refer to this article.

IP range exclusion

By default, the IP range to exclude is 192.168.56.0/24. If you are using custom settings or if this range is unavailable for some reason, follow these steps to identify the range to exclude:

1. Start VirtualBox outside of Genymotion Desktop 2. Go to File > Host Network Manager 3. Locate the Host-only interface that corresponds to Genymotion virtual device(s) (usually called vboxnetX for Linux and macOS, and VirtualBox Host-only Ethernet adapter for Windows)

QEMU

We have not tested using the QEMU hypervisor with a VPN. Although the VPN may work with QEMU, we recommend disabling the VPN while using Genymotion Desktop if the virtual device fails to start.
