Overview
Android Automotive (AAOS) is a version of Android made specifically for vehicle IVI (In-Vehicle Infotainment) systems. Android Automotive for Genymotion Device Image is a cloud-based emulator that mirrors vehicle behaviors by running Android Automotive OS in virtual devices. The release is currently an alpha version. Android Automotive OS 14.0 is available on AWS Marketplace with a free trial by using AWS Marketplace. More features will be added in future releases.

Android Automotive – Climate Control
Android Automotive introduces new challenges for Android application developers. Developers must implement a specific version of their application that follows the Automotive UI guidelines, for example with bigger buttons. Developers often face the impossibility to access real vehicle hardware, creating a need for a practical emulator for development and testing. Genymotion’s Android Automotive device aims to fulfill these needs by behaving as much as possible like a real vehicle. The device provides mocking features that were already present on smartphone virtual devices, such as GPS, Networking, Disk IO, and screen captures.
Android Automotive – Navigation
The Android Automotive device introduces a customized VHAL that lets users connect through gRPC protocol and read/write all vehicle properties directly from within the virtual IVI emulator or through an external client. For more details and examples, refer to this tutorial.
