Basic Steps

To start using Genymotion Desktop, follow the steps below. These steps describe the initial setup, how to create virtual devices, and how to launch them.

First Run

1. Launch Genymotion Desktop.

2. Windows: Click Genymotion from the Windows Application menu or desktop.

3. macOS: Click Genymotion from the Applications directory.

4. Linux: Click Genymotion from your distribution Application Launcher, or in a terminal:

6. If your host machine is connected to a proxy, click View proxy options and set your Proxy type, hostname, port and authentication.

7. In the Usage panel, select a licensing option:

Note

The Genymotion Launcher Dashboard appears after the initial setup.

Change Hypervisor (not recommended)

1. Virtual devices created with VirtualBox will not appear in the Genymotion dashboard if the hypervisor is switched to QEMU, and vice versa.

2. The default and recommended hypervisor for Linux and macOS is QEMU.

3. It is possible to switch between VirtualBox or QEMU hypervisor:

4. If you change from the default, you will be prompted to restart Genymotion to apply that change.

Create a New Device

1. Click CREATE and select a virtual device template from the list. You can use the box and Filters to find a specific device profile.

2. Click NEXT or double-click on the template of your choice. The virtual device installation wizard opens.

3. In the GENERAL tab, you can change the name and select the Android version of the device.

4. Click NEXT when done.

5. If you upgraded from a previous version, you can click to force an update of the available Android images.

6. If you use a non-rooted Android image, you can also enable root from here.

7. In the SYSTEM tab, you can change the number of processors, RAM and/or VM Heap size.

8. Click NEXT to proceed.

9. In the DISPLAY tab, you can select the resolution, the window style and the OpenGL ES maximum API version.

10. Click NEXT to proceed.

11. In the Android options tab, you can enable or disable the Android navigation bar (default: enabled) and the virtual keyboard (default: disabled).

12. Click NEXT to proceed.

13. In the Hypervisor options tab, you can toggle QEMU quick boot feature.

14. In the Hypervisor options tab, you can set the NAT (default) or Bridge hypervisor network mode.

15. Click INSTALL to start the device deployment.

16. Your virtual device is being downloaded and will appear in the dashboard.

17. If the virtual device deployment fails at this point, you may be running out of free space.

Launch a Device

1. Double click on your newly created virtual device, or click the start button to start it.

2. The Virtual Device display appears.
