How to enable hardware virtualization (VT-x/SVM) on Windows 10?

Hardware virtualization is mandatory to use Genymotion Desktop. All modern CPUs support hardware virtualization (VT-x/SVM).

Overview

Hardware virtualization is a CPU capability required to run Genymotion Desktop. It is identified as VT-x on Intel CPUs and SVM on AMD CPUs.

Accessing BIOS from Windows 10

1) Open the Start Menu. 2) Open Windows Settings by clicking the gear icon. 3) Click on Update & Security. 4) In the Recovery tab, click on Restart now. 5) You will be presented with four options to choose from. 6) Click on Troubleshoot. 7) Click on Advanced Options. 8) Within the Advanced options, select UEFI Firmware Settings. Note: If you don't see UEFI Firmware Settings, you may need to disable Fast Startup. 9) You will now be prompted to restart your machine. 10) Click on Restart Now. 11) Once you have entered the BIOS settings in your PC, the steps for enabling virtualization will vary according to the CPU you have. 12) If you have an Intel CPU, the option to enable should be called Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-X). 13) If you have an AMD CPU, the feature to enable should be called SVM Mode. 14) Once enabled, save the change and reboot your PC.
