Why is an Oracle Virtual Box required for Windows installation?
On Windows, Genymotion Desktop uses VirtualBox as the default hypervisor to run Android virtual devices. It is bundled with the installer because the Windows edition depends on it for virtualization.
Details:
- The Windows installer for older 2.x releases explicitly included Oracle VirtualBox. See Genymotion Desktop 2.X Releases.
- The current docs also state that on Windows, VirtualBox is the default and recommended hypervisor. See Genymotion Desktop Release Notes.
- Genymotion Desktop requires a hypervisor to run the virtual device, and on Windows that role is filled by VirtualBox.
