What are Genymotion Desktop requirements?

> Important: Genymotion Desktop is not available for arm64 Single Board Computers, such as Raspberry Pi. > Important: Genymotion Desktop is not available for 32-bit systems. > Warning: Virtual environments (VM, Docker, VPS, etc.) are not supported.

Pre-requisite

Genymotion account

An active Genymotion account is mandatory to use Genymotion Desktop.

Genymotion Desktop launch requires clicking CREATE when prompted to create an account.

Internet connection

An Internet connection is mandatory to use Genymotion Desktop.

A 15 days token is generated after signing in, so it is possible to use Genymotion Desktop offline during 15 days between each connections.

After this time, Genymotion requires connecting to the Internet so that Genymotion can verify credentials.

Virtualization technology (PC)

Virtualization Technology (VT/AMD-V/SMV) is mandatory and must be enabled in the BIOS/UEFI.

For more details, see

Windows

| GPU | NVIDIA Geforce 8 series or higher, AMD Radeon R600 or higher* |

| RAM | 16 GB or higher |

| Screen resolution | 1920x1080 or higher |

| Free HD Space | 120MB for Genymotion + 1GB per virtual devices |

*Intel HD/UHD display driver for Windows . The page recommends using an NVIDIA or AMD GPU on Windows for best compatibility.

VirtualBox + Hyper-V

Genymotion Desktop does not work well with VirtualBox if Hyper-V is enabled.

Genymotion Desktop may encounter errors or very poor performance.

The page recommends disabling Hyper-V completely when using Genymotion Desktop.

For more details and instructions, refer to

Laptops

Some laptops have a dual graphics processor (Intel iGPU + NVIDIA/AMD discrete GPU).

This configuration is known to cause issues such as bad performance and errors.

To solve this, the page instructs forcing Windows to use the high profile NVIDIA/AMD GPU globally via .

The page instructs making sure the laptop is plugged to the mains. The page instructs setting performance settings to "Balanced", "Performance" or "Game mode".

Hypervisor

It is possible to choose between VirtualBox or QEMU (experimental).

On Windows, the recommended and default Hypervisor is VirtualBox.

VirtualBox (recommended)

VirtualBox is the default and recommended hypervisor on Windows.

VirtualBox needs to be installed alongside Genymotion Desktop.

The page states that Genymotion offers an installer with Genymotion and the recommended version of VirtualBox on .

If VirtualBox is already installed, or if VirtualBox should be installed separately, the page instructs referring to .

QEMU

It is possible to use QEMU hypervisor.

QEMU remains experimental.

Known performance issues exist on Windows systems.

The page notes that QEMU on Windows .

Linux

Supported Linux distributions

Genymotion Desktop has been fully tested on the following distributions:

Other distributions such as Kali Linux, Linux Mint or Arch Linux are not officially supported.

> Warning: Incompatible systems > - Linux 32-bit > - Linux arm/arm64 (coming soon) > -

Recommended hardware

| CPU | Intel Core i5 (64-bit), AMD Ryzen or higher |

|---|---|

| GPU | OpenGL 3.3 capable graphics processor or higher* |

| RAM | 16 GB or higher |

| Screen resolution | 1920x1080 or higher |

| Free HD Space | 120MB for Genymotion + 1GB per virtual devices |

*If an NVIDIA GPU is available, the page instructs using the proprietary drivers for best compatibility.

Hypervisor

It is possible to choose between VirtualBox or QEMU.

On Linux, the default Hypervisor is QEMU.

The page links: .

QEMU (default, recommended)

QEMU uses kvm.

The page states that kvm is installed by default with the recommended distributions.

There is nothing else to install with this hypervisor.

VirtualBox (not recommended)

If VirtualBox is used instead of QEMU, VirtualBox needs to be installed separately.

VirtualBox needs to be selected explicitly.

For instructions, refer to .

> Important: VirtualBox hypervisor is still available for legacy support, but it is deprecated on Linux systems. > The page strongly suggests switching to QEMU instead if possible.

macOS

Supported macOS versions

Genymotion Desktop has been fully tested on:

On macOS, the default Hypervisor is QEMU.

QEMU (default, recommended)

QEMU uses Hypervisor.

Hypervisor is installed by default on macOS.

For more information, refer to .

VirtualBox (legacy, mac Intel only)

If an old Mac Intel system is used, it is possible to choose between VirtualBox or QEMU.

The page links: .

> Important: VirtualBox is only available on old mac with Intel x86_64 CPU for legacy support: it is deprecated and we do not recommend using VirtualBox on macOS. > If VirtualBox usage is still required, the page instructs referring to for detailed instructions.
