I won't use a physical webcam! Tell me alternatives so I can use an emulated device!?
Can I use virtual camera sources with Genymotion Desktop alternatives to physical webcam, including Genymotion SaaS, OBS Virtual Camera, smartphone IP camera apps (DroidCam), and browser camera support.
❌ NO. Genymotion Desktop does not support virtual/loop cameras (e.g. OBS VirtualCam or Host-Virtualcams) reliably and is not designed for it.
✅ ALTERNATIVES without physical webcam: Use Genymotion SaaS (Browser) with OBS Virtual Camera or use Genymotion PaaS/Device image in the Browser, which can accept virtual camera feeds.
Details / Steps:
- Genymotion Desktop: virtual webcams are not recommended or officially supported; only UVC-compatible physical webcams work reliably. See: My webcam does not work with Genymotion Desktop.
- Genymotion SaaS: You can use OBS Virtual Camera as a website camera. Set the output resolution in OBS to 1280×720 and choose OBS Virtual Camera under Site settings > Camera in Chrome, then use the SaaS-camera-widget this feed. See: Can I use OBS Studio Virtual Camera with Genymotion SaaS?.
- Genymotion PaaS / Device image: Browser-based images can use host input devices through the Camera-widget and under certain conditions also accept virtual camera feeds (see notes on using host-microphone/camera). Example info: Can I use my host microphone with Genymotion Device image (PaaS)?.
- Apps like DroidCam or smartphone-IP-camera-tools usually create a host-virtual camera that does not work reliably with Genymotion Desktop; they can, however, work in combination with Genymotion SaaS if the browser recognizes the virtual camera.
Which of these options suits you: do you want a step-by-step guide for Genymotion SaaS + OBS Virtual Camera, or should I check if your goal is better covered by Genymotion PaaS / Device image?
